An insignificant inheritance. The day my great grandmother died I received a ruby ring. It was the brightest gem my eyes had fallen on in my 17 years of small town life. I never even met her but I inherited it. It slipped it on my index finger on the left hand. It sat there and glimmered. What did it mean, nothing, at least I thought. Every single little detail of my life was insignificant in this small town. No one cared that I inherited a ring. I couldn't really feel happy about because even if it was beautiful it came from someone who had died. Stifling a yawn I rose and prepared for bed. My stupid last night in this town. Would I miss it that much? No. I skipped 9th grade and now a high school graduate I was going to college tomorrow. Why was it such a big deal? My great grandmother was very rich and decided in her will that she was sending money to her only heirs my mother and I, so that I could go to a very top of the line college.
Honestly I was secretly excited. I would leave my insignificant, worthless boring days in the small town of population 600 to go to a college and live in a dorm. My head hit the pillow and before I fell asleep I whispered to myself, "Claire, we'll be on that plane tomorrow and start a new life." My eyes closed and a dream of rain forests and butterflies met me. They almost felt to real.
I woke to the noise of my name being called. Groggy and still half asleep I pushed myself to wake up. It was my last morning here. I had to be a the airport soon. Breakfast was on the table. I felt things were going fast, it was strange I thought I just might missed this small town. Breaking my thoughts was the smell of pancakes covered in strawberries. I sat down and grabbed a fork. "Thanks Mom, my favorite. I guess it's are last day." my voice was even although I thought it might break, the one thing I would miss the most, my mom. She nodded, "Don't worry about it Hun. Mom's not gonna have to make you breakfast for a long time now. When you get there call me and call me at least once a week I want to know all about your college life."
It went by like a blur. I was on the plane in 3 hours from breakfast, a two hour flight to an airport where I would catch the main flight. I found myself sitting on an airplane next to a boy probably my age. Blond with blue eyes. He kept watching out the window. I thought he was kind of handsome but who knew where he would go after this flight. It was just a coincidence. No reason to talk to him. To my surprise he talked to me half way through the flight. Looking at me with perfect blue eyes. "Hi, this is a nice flight, I was expecting more turbulence. " He smiled, he had a pretty face and a kind voice. I was pretty surprised so I just nodded.
That was just like my personality not even introducing myself or even saying a word. That was the one part of the day that was slow. This flight was the 5 hours long so it made sense. Those were are only exchanged words and now I was stepping off the plane getting ready for my last flight. I would catch a 3 hour flight and have a taxi ride to my new college dorm. My Luggage was a pain most of the time I worried it would become lost but it didn't. In line for the next flight that sam e boy was in front of me. he looked over his shoulder and smiled at me. "Hello again. Looks like we're having yet another flight together. You wouldn't happen to be going to the university near our destination would you?" He hit it on the head. I replied a little shaken, "Yeah! Hi, I'm Claire Arore." I introduced myself holding out a hand for a hand shake.
We ended up sitting together. Chatting away, suddenly there was a jolt of electricity next to my window. I edged away from it. The small plane was starting to get very shaky. The plane was then filled with a shocking boom and then dead silence. I folded my hands and looked at them. To my surprise my ruby ring was glowing. Not with its usual radiance but an unnatural one. I looked at the person sitting next to me who I had come to know as Gage Lionell, he was looking at me now to. He put his hand on my hands with a determined expression.
The plane was going down I could feel it. All that was below was blue water and a untimely death. I wished that it wouldn't be that way. A brilliant light felt the passenger area of the plain. I blacked out, and again dreamed of a rain forest and butterflies. I could smell the salty water of the ocean and hear splashing all around. I felt the sand on my skin and the sun on my back. A voice calling my name in the background. It wasn't long till I woke up on a sandy beach. It wasn't a pleasant awakening I was coughing up water as soon as I woke up. Someone lifted my head up and I gained a bit mre of my senses back.
I tried to collect my information, piece together what had happened. Then I heard a kind voice, Gaga was talking to me. "Claire!? Claire! Are you okay?" I nodded. Then sat up on my own and coughed a bit while looking around. I had no idea where we were. It was a sandy beach, I could here a waterfall, I could hear the waves rolling onto the beach. I looked around to see that it wasn't just me and Gage. There was a group of people who looked our age. Eight others, four boys, four girls.
I studied them for a moment, there was a dark skinned girl with the cutest curls, a brunette like myself only she had a tan, a blond and a seemingly Asian girl. The boys were standing on the left of the girls, all of them tall, one with jet black hair and green eyes pale as can be. Another was muscular and seemingly Italian, the other two seemed to be identical twins, both and reddish brown hair and were not as muscular as then Italian. They must have been watching Gage resuscitate me.
I felt lukewarm, soaked and tired. I leaned onto Gage and thought I might fall back into unconsciousness. I heard voices mumbling, I felt Gage pick me up, when I came too I was laying on a bed. I sat up and shook my head. A girl was sitting in a chair watching me, she called out towards the door, "Hey she's awake!" I recognized her dark skin and her cute curly hair. She looked me and smiled, "We weren't sure if you would wake up." Her gentle voice slightly brightened the room. "What happened?" My voice was cracked, uneven and tired.
